Famed conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and UN Messenger of Peace, will be visiting the Zoo on Saturday, May 1, as part of a regional Roots & Shoots celebration. (A program of the Jane Goodall Institute, Roots & Shoots is a youth organization that focuses on making positive change happen for our communities, for animals and for the environment.) During her visit, Dr. Goodall will participate in a public speaking program and will be available to sign copies of her new book, Hope for Animals and Their World (which features RWP Zoo's American Burying Beetle Conservation Program). Copies of the book will also be available for purchase at the Zoo. Both the speaking program and the book signing are open to the public, on a first-come, first-served basis. The second Women Holding Office celebration will be held on Monday, May 3 from 6 to 8pm at Kirkbrae Country Club in Lincoln. Public officials and the general public are invited to attend.
Women Holding Office is a rally call for women to come together, support one another and become part of the political process. The event format consists of a cocktail reception with a keynote speaker, and recognition and introduction of female elected officials, followed by networking.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Melissa Unemori Hampe is a former domestic policy advisor to Senators Harry Reid and Tom Daschle, and former press staffer to the late Congresswoman Patsy Mink - author of Title IX and the first woman of color in Congress. Epilepsy “Transitions” Workshop for parents and caregivers of children with epilepsy. Presented by The Matty Fund and Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Workshops will focus on important issues faced by parents and caregivers as children “transition” through school, into independence and adulthood, other sessions include epilepsy 101 and treatment options. Many session topics will also be covered and presented in Spanish in transiciones de la epilepsia en español.
