Annual Fireworks Display

The city’s annual fireworks display to celebrate Independence Day will be held at the Oakland Beach seawall.

Fireworks will begin at dusk (approximately 9 p.m.) 

In case of inclement weather, residents should call 738-2000 for updates on delays or cancellations. The Department of Tourism, Culture and Development’s Facebook and Twitter accounts ( and will also have updates. 

Parking restrictions will be strictly enforced. 

Due to the volume of traffic expected at the seawall, residents are also advised to expect heavy delays on Oakland Beach Avenue and to seek alternate routes to the seawall area, such as Sea View Drive or Pequot Avenue. 

Residents are advised that the fireworks can also be viewed from City Park, which offers fantastic, unobstructed views of the display along the shoreline.

Mayor Baldelli-Hunt invites city residents to Barry Memorial Field on Sunday, July 3 for the annual Independence Day concert and fireworks celebration. Mayor Baldelli-Hunt stated “I am pleased to announce that our annual Independence Day concert and fireworks celebration will once again be held for the enjoyment of all of our City residents. This year we will honor Independence Day at the alternate location of Barry Field as we continue to honor our veterans with the renovation of World War II Memorial State Park.” Local favorite Jeff Gamache and Runaway Train, a 6 piece band will give a two hour performance featuring country music for the first hour and a mix of pop, rock and blues in the second hour. During the band's set break, Jeff will sing a variety of patriotic favorites.

The concert starts at 7:00 PM and the fireworks will light up the skies around 9:00 PM. Rain Date for the event is July 5. Event attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

The Fourth of July Parade begins at 10:30 a.m. and will step-off at the corner of Chestnut Street and Hope Street (Rt. 114) and ends on High Street, between State Street and Bradford Street.
Hope Street (Rt. 114) will be closed off beginning at 8:00 a.m., including Poppasquash Road.
Beginning at 7:00 a.m., Chestnut Street, Naomi Street and Sherry Avenue will be close to traffic. A parking ban along the parade route goes into effect the night before the parade.

"Celebrate Independence Day with a spectacular fireworks display over New Bedford Harbor! Presented by Mayor Jon Mitchell and the City of New Bedford the fireworks spectacular will take place overlooking State Pier on Monday July 4th at 9:00PM.

The fireworks will be staged from a barge off State Pier in New Bedford Harbor. Spectators who wish to view the fireworks overlooking State Pier are advised to park for free in the Elm Street and Zeiterion garages downtown and view from lower Union Street and Front Street. Lower Union Street (east of Water Street) will be closed to vehicle traffic and offers ideal fireworks viewing. Please note that State Pier will NOT be accessible and there will be NO PARKING on the evening of July 4th.

New Bedford’s 4th of July fireworks are made possible through the generous sponsorship of Hawthorn Medical Associates and supporting sponsors St. Anne’s Credit Union and New Bedford Whaling Museum.  "PROVIDENCE, RI - Mayor Jorge O. Elorza, the City of Providence Department of Art, Culture + Tourism and the Providence Tourism Council are pleased to announce the City's annual Independence Day Celebration will be held at India Point Park on Monday, July 4th beginning at 4:30PM. This expanded event will feature family friendly activities, a bike parade and valet, live entertainment and a fireworks display. This event is free and open to the public.

"The City's Independence Day Celebration is a highlight of the summer season here in Providence," said Mayor Elorza. "I look forward to joining visitors and residents from all of our neighborhoods at India Point Park to celebrate the Fourth of July at this family-friendly, free event and our signature fireworks display."

The City of Providence's Independence Day Celebration kicks off at 4:30PM with a festive line-up of family-friendly programming. Some of the highlights include: Circus Dynamics who will be performing magic shows, the Rhode Island Black Storytellers who will be sharing their special blend of performance-based story-telling, puppeteer Marc Kohlerwill amaze with his many creations and the K-Rob BMX Stunt Team will present a BMX demonstration.

Children and adults are encouraged to bike to India Point Park and participate in Mayor Elorza's 1st Annual Independence Day Bike Parade. Residents from all neighborhoods are encouraged to join 6:00PM at Providence City Hall as the bicycle-train weaves its way through Downtown Providence picking up more cyclists at India Point Park by the playground at 6:30PM. Participants can park their bikes for no cost at the event's bike valet.

Guests can enjoy their favorite flavors of the Ocean State with a food truck market presented in partnership with

Local Latin Rockers Santa Mamba will kick off the main stage festivities beginning at 8pm followed by a spectacular fireworks display over Narragansett Bay at 9:15pm. Immediately following the fireworks display the crowd is encouraged to stick around and dance the night away with a very special guest performing on the main stage.

The rain date will be July 5, 2016.

We are working closely with our public safety agencies to ensure that this year's event is fun and secure.

  • Spectators are asked to be aware of their surroundings. If you see a suspicious person, object or vehicle in the park, please report the sighting to (401) 272-3121 or notify nearby law enforcement personnel.
  • Do not store or leave any personal items, backpacks, or packages unattended in the park.
  • Bags may be subject to random search.
  • No fireworks of any kind are allowed in the park.
  • No open flames of any kind are allowed in the park.
  • Per the regulations of the Providence Parks Commission, dogs, skateboards and open flames/grilling will be prohibited in the park.
  • Expect delays when leaving after the fireworks.
  • The public is strongly encouraged to access the park by the India Point Park Walking Bridge located at East and Wickenden Streets.

The City will also be observing the following traffic plan to ensure easy access in and out of India Point Park on July 4:
  • There will be restricted parking along India Street and it will be closed after 8 a.m.
  • South Main and India Street will be ONE-WAY (South then West) from Point Street along South Main under the I-Way Bridge underpass West to the Wyndham Hotel (Gano Street).
  • Customers of the Wyndham will be allowed to enter from Gano Street.
  • No stopping will be allowed on Route 95 or Route 195. The Rhode Island State Police will be posted on the highway.
  • Boats are permitted in the Bay but safety regulations will be strictly enforced, including requiring navigational lights, life jackets, and a 200 yard security zone around the fireworks barge. For more information on boat safety laws, please visit: "

Battleship Cove is open daily 9 am to 5 pm. Tickets are limited, so get yours now!

National Night Out 5:00 - 9:30 p.m.

National Night Out is the creation of the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and is meant to bring attention to local anti-crime programs; strengthen the relationship among and between community groups and law enforcement; foster a sense of community; and bring attention to anti-drug and crime prevention efforts. The NATW said that over 36 million people across the country participated in last year’s National Night Out event.

The event, which is designed to bring law enforcement together with members of the community, especially children, is free. Parking is restricted on some streets but there is plenty of parking in the surrounding areas including the boat ramp parking lot located at the end of Bay Ave off Suburban Pkwy.

Events include Warwick Police K-9 demonstrations, various police vehicles, children’s fingerprinting, karate demonstrations, Native American drummers, Officer Friendly, McGruff the Dog, free refreshments and kid’s prizes/giveaways (while supplies last), police and fire equipment, various neighborhood groups, various child friendly activities, and an opening ceremony featuring the Warwick Police Honor Guard along with other City officials.
All are invited to attend and help give neighborhood crime and drugs a going away party.
