Kathy Sullivan has worked in the substance prevention field for over 18 years in RI. She is employed by Coastline EAP and manages Kent Regional Prevention grant from the RI Dept of Behavioral Health. Prior to her years in primary prevention, she worked in the substance treatment field in the UK for over ten years. Kathy is passionate about the importance of communities coming together to work on policy and programs that will prevent substance use and promote wellness.
As a Certified Prevention Specialist and Director of the Kent County Prevention Coalition, Kathy manages a regional coalition with representation from parents, law enforcement, schools, youth, business leaders, healthcare providers, media and faith leaders. Together, the group assesses the region’s level of substance use and creates a strategic plan for address local risk factors.
Kathy also manages five local prevention coalitions in East Greenwich, Coventry, Exeter West Greenwich, West Warwick, and Warwick. The groups educate parents, host forums on mental health issues, provide training to youth, parents, and community leaders among the many activities to help reduce youth alcohol, marijuana, tobacco, vaping and prescription drug misuse.
Kathy is a member of the Governor’s Overdose Prevention Workgroup and was appointed by Gina Raimondo to the state’s Vaping Commission. She has presented at statewide and national conferences.
When not working, Kathy enjoys rowing on the Warren River, spending time with family, mentoring a foster child named Jibby and connecting with friends.
