May 25, 2026
With the nation celebrating its 250th birthday in 2026, the posts of the American Legion and VFW are inviting all organizations, clubs, school classes, businesses and municipal departments to participate in the Memorial Day parade.
Groups may march as a unit with an identifying banner or flat. They also may construct a float on a trailer or truck for the parade. A Revolutionary War-era theme is encouraged, but not required.
“Memorial Day is the day we remember those who died in our nation’s wars, so it is a somber day, a day of remembrance,” organizers said. “But it is also a day to look toward the future, and this year we are looking forward to starting the next 250 years of our country’s history.”
Memorial Day is Monday, May 25. The parade commences at 10 a.m. from the corner of Lawn and Watson avenues, proceeds to the cemetery at the Four Corners for a reading of the names of veterans who have died since Memorial Day 2025, then marches east to Veterans Memorial Square at the East Ferry for a 20-minute ceremony.
Groups should rendezvous in front of Lawn School at 9:30 a.m. Call Dennis Webster at 401-423-1700 for more information.
